If you are new to affiliate marketing then joining an affiliate marketing network might be the best thing for you to get you started on your way. Affiliate marketing networks offer stability and pretty much guarantee you that you'll be paid for your efforts. This isn't always the case when dealing with individual companies, some of whom have been known to rip-off hard working affiliates in the past. Fortunately, most of these thieves don't stick around long after pulling these underhanded tactics but it's usually after it's already happened. Some individual companies are great to deal with, but always be careful.
The are different types of affiliate marketing networks that you can join. Some will pay you by the lead, some will pay you by the sale, some will even pay for something as simple as a zip code or email address. These are known as cost per action or "CPA" networks and they've become very popular recently. There are several CPA networks out there that you can apply to join. Some of the more popular ones are Azoogle, Hydra Media, CPA Empire and there are many more.
A few of the more popular affiliate networks are Linkshare, Commission Junction, Shareasale, Performics, Clickbank, PayDotCom and many others.
You don't always have to do what everyone else is doing by joining these particular networks either. It doesn't hurt to find a smaller, less known network. Some expert affiliates do this and are able to provide unique offers and separate themselves further from their competition. I'm not telling you to try and reinvent the wheel here, only that it doesn't hurt to be a bit original in your offers.
Finding the right affiliate marketing network is a matter of the market that you plan on working in, ability to develop a good relationship with your affiliate managers, compensation and more. Sometimes it doesn't happen overnight, but with a bit of persistence you'll soon be able to find a place that you feel comfortable working with.
